Senior Quantum Algorithm Engineer, Optimization
Iqm Quantum Computers
Senior Quantum Algorithm Engineer, Optimization
IQM is a global leader in designing, building, and selling superconducting quantum computers. IQM provides both on-premises full-stack quantum computers and a cloud platform to access its computers anywhere in the world. IQM customers include the leading high-performance computing centres, research labs, universities and enterprises which have full access to IQM's software and hardware. IQM has over 300 employees with offices in Finland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Singapore, South Korea, Japan and the US.
In this role, the Senior Quantum Algorithm Engineer strengthens IQM’s leadership across the stack by advancing quantum optimization methods and integrating them into real-world computational workflows. As part of the algorithms and applications department, the optimization team develops and applies quantum algorithms for solving hard combinatorial problems, with a clear ambition: pushing the field forward by turning good ideas into methods that actually run, scale, and teach us something new about what quantum optimization can do. We aim to couple algorithm development with hardware reality. We design with the device in mind, i.e. circuit structure, measurement strategy, and error-mitigation readiness, and then iterate directly against implementations on real QPU’s and realistic constraints. By closing the loop between algorithmic innovation and hardware realization, we aim to deliver quantum optimization techniques that are not just promising on paper, but also impactful in practice.
The team and position are based in Munich, Germany.
